FOR THE PURESTS, WHO MIGHT NOT LIKE THE SLIGHT DIVERSIONS FROM THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT CAR, THIS CAN BE CONVERTED BACK TO AN ALL NUMBERS MATCHING CAR AND HAVE AN EXCEPTIONAL, NEWLY RESTORED 1959 CORVETTE, INCLUDING PURCHASE, FOR LESS THAN THE COST OF A CURRENT OR FUTURE RESTORATION OF THIS QUALITY. I HAVE ALL THE ORIGINAL PARTS, EXCEPT MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION, TO RESTORE DRIVE TRAIN IF DESIRED.

THE CAR LOOKS FANTASTIC, ATTRACTS MANY MALE AND FEMALE ADMIRERS AND IS A VERY POSITIVE SURPRISE TO DRIVE, EVEN FOR THE EXPERIENCED DRIVER OF OLDER CORVETTES. IT IS A REALLY NICE, EYE CATCHING, EAR PLEASING, STRONG RUNNING, ATTENTION GETTING POTENTIAL ADDITION FOR ANY COLLECTOR AND/OR FOR COLLECTOR CAR SHOWS, OR JUST FOR THE THRILL TO OWN AND DRIVE.

History

THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AS AN ALL SILVER EXTERIOR WITH RED INTERIOR, WHITE TOPPED CONVERTIBLE BY THE PRESENT OWNER IN 1963 (OWNER HAS MOST ALL SERVICE AND RESTORATION PAPERWORK SINCE PURCHASE) WITH 283 CU IN 230 HP MOTOR AND 3 SPEED TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE WAS DYNO TESTED 07/31/63, RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE. OWNER HAS REPAIR MANUALS AND OWNER’S MANUAL AS WELL AS SEVERSAL PHOTOS TAKEN DURING OWNERSHIP AND THE RESTORATION PROCESS.

THE ORIGINAL 283 ENGINE, REBUILT IN 1963, THREW A ROD AND WAS REPLACED BY 1965 CHEV 327 300 CU. IN. 300 HP MARCH 24, 1967. AND THE 3 SPEED TRADED OUT FOR A 4 SPEED MUNCIE ALUMINUM TRANSMISSION ABOUT THE SAME TIME. THIS SPORTS A HIGHER (EASIER TO USE THAN ORIGINAL) BALL TOP, FINGER PULL UP LOCKOUT SHIFTER WITH SHORT THROW. THIS IS TRIMMED OUT WITH A CUSTOM BOOT AND CUSTOM POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL SHIFTER PLATE NEXT TO A SIMILAR ASHTRAY PLATE HOLDING THE ORIGINAL ASHTRAY (SEE PHOTO).

THE CAR WAS PAINTED ROYAL BLUE WITH WHITE COVES IN 1965 AND THE OWNER PURCHASED A HARD TOP IN 1967.

THE PRESENT OWNER SURRENDERED REGISTRATION PLATES 12/18/68, TOOK THE CAR OFF ROAD AND GARAGED IT FOR RESTORATION.

THE INITIAL RESTORATION, A FRAME OFF, STARTED AS A GROUND UP PROJECT THAT WAS NEARLY COMPLETED.

THE 327 WAS SWAPPED OUT FOR A PONTIAC 400 CUBIC INCH HO 360 HP WITH 455 FT-LB TORQUE IN 1970 AND NEVER DRIVEN. THIS ENGINE HAS THE RAM AIR TYPE, NOW TREATED, CAST IRON EXHAUST MANIFOLDS FOR GOOD EXHAUST FLOW. THIS ENGINE WAS DYMANICALLY BALANCED (CONNECTING RODS, PISTON AND CRANKSHAFT); HAS BEEN BORED .03 OVER; HAS HARDENED VALVE SEATS TO UTILIZE NON-LEADED PREMIUM FUEL. THE ORIGINAL ROCHESTER 4 BARREL CARBURATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A HOLLY. THE ORIGINAL HEAVY CAST IRON INTAKE MANIFOLD HAS BEEN REPLACED BY AN ALUMINUM EDELBROCK INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE ORIGINAL IGNITION HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO ELECTRONIC IGNITION.

THE INSTALLATION UTILIZES THE ORIGINAL DRIVE SHAFT.

THE ORIGINALL DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED BY A 3:08 LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL FOR GRIP AND GAS MILEAGE.

THE CAR NOW HAS ALUMINIZED PIPES AND STREET MUFFLERS RATHER THAN AN OFF ROAD SYSTEM, BUT SOUNDS AWSOME JUST THE SAME.

THE FIRST RESTORATION INCLUDED A COMPLETE CUSTOM LEATHER LIKE INTERIOR THAT WAS EVENTUALLY DESTROYED BY RACCONS THAT ENTERED THE STORAGE BUILDING, SO THE OWNER LOST INCENTIVE TO CONTINUE.

THE CAR REMAINED IN STORAGE TILL SPRING OF 2003, WHEN THE DECISION WAS MADE TO HAVE THE CAR PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED TO ORIGINAL SPECIFICATIONS, EXCEPT FOR THE DRIVE TRAIN.

THE CURRENT RESTORATION, AGAIN A FRAME OFF PROCESS, USING ALL CURRENT TECHNOLOGY, STARTED FROM SCATCH AND WAS COMPLETED JUST RECENTLY. EVERY ITEM, INCLUDING THE MOTOR, WAS DISMANTLED AND EVERY PIECE OF THE VEHICLE WAS CLEANED, REFINISHED, POLISHED, RECHROMED OR REPLACED WITH NEW OR REPRODUCTION PARTS. MANY OF THE PARTS ARE ORIGINAL CORVETTE PARTS PURCHASED PRIOR TO 1969, WHILE GM STILL HAD THEM AVAILABLE, IN ANTICIPATION OF THE RESTORATION BUT NEVER PUT ON TILL NOW.

THE ORIGINAL RADIATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A LARGE CAPACITY CUSTOM COPPER RADIATOR IN THE ORIGINAL MOUNTING FRAME WITH AN ADDED LARGE ELECTRIC THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLED COOLING FAN.

THE ENTIRE FRAME AND CHASSIS COMPONENTS WERE STRIPPED, CLEANED AND PAINTED WITH BLACK EPOXY.

THE BODY, HAS EXCEPTIONAL, TIGHT BODY PANELS (ALMOST NO DAMAGE FROM PREVIOUS OWNERS), WAS STRIPPED TO BARE FIBERGLASS, FILLED AND SMOOTHED. A TWO STAGE PRIMER SURFACER, AND MULTIPLE FINISH LAYERS, IN FACTORY ORIGINAL COLOR, WERE APPLIED AND FINSIHED WITH CLEAR COATS.

THE CAR NOW HAS A PERIOD CORRECT 1959 CORVETTE FROST BLUE EXTERIOR WITH WHITE COVES, A FROST BLUE HARD TOP, A NEW WHITE SOFT TOP AND COMPLETE NEW MATCHING FROST BLUE INTERIOR.

ALL WEATHER STRIPPING HAS BEEN REPLACED, AND ALL NEW SEAT SPRINGS AND HARDWARE WERE INSTALLED.

ALL GAUGES HAVE BEEN REBUILT TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. THE CLOCK WAS CONVERTED TO QUARTZ. THE ORIGINAL WONDERBAR RADIO HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A BETTER THAN NCRS NEW 12 VOLT 12 SPEAKER, CD PLAYER COMPATIBLE, 180 WATTS AM/FM STEREO WONDERBAR RADIO FROM ANTIQUE AUTOMOBILE RADIO INC. THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL. THE ORIGINAL SINGLE SPEAKER HAS BEEN REPLACED BY A DUAL, STEREO SPEAKER IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION. THE TACHOMETER IS A SUN WITH ADJUSTABLE RED LINE SET IN ORIGINAL LOCATION AND CONVERTED FROM BATTERY TO ELECTRONIC.

THE STEERING GEARBOX, AND HENCE THE STEERING WHEEL, HAVE BEEN MOVED SLIGHTLY FORWARD TO INCREASED ENGINE COMPARTMENT ROOM AND ALLOWS GREATER ROOM FOR DRIVERS, THOUGH NOT READILY SEEN.

THIS CAR IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER AND WILL THRILL THE NEW OWNER AS MUCH OR MORE THAN THE PRESENT OWNER AND WILL BE A JOY FOR YEARS TO COME.
